Circularity

We are working to apply circular principles across our value chain from material sourcing and product design, to packaging, operations and end-of-life solutions. Our aim is to keep materials in use for longer and reduce waste at every stage.

Our commitment to advancing circularity

The building sector accounts for more than one third of global materials consumption, making circularity a critical enabler of a low-carbon, resource-efficient future. To advance circularity, we’re working across our value chain. From sourcing materials with recycled content and applying circular principles in our product design, to reducing waste and collaborating with partners in the industry to bring greater circularity to the building sector.

Built to Last

Durability and responsibility, by design.

Our roof windows  are engineered for decades of performance, and with occasional maintenance and cleaning, they're built to last. Rigorous testing ensures reliability, while modular designs allow products to be repaired and upgraded, keeping them functional for longer.

We're also rethinking how we design and package our products. Recycled and certified materials help to reduce our reliance on virgin resources without compromising quality. That’s why 100% of the wood in our Residential window products is certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC®) or the Program for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC). Sourcing recycled materials

We already have several partnerships in place to support our aim of increasing the recycled content in our products. For example, we work with Novelis – the world’s largest aluminium recycler. They are providing us with high recycled content flat-rolled aluminium for use in our products. We also work with Arcelor Mittal who provides us with low-carbon emission steel that is produced using a minimum of 75% scrap steel and 100% renewable electricity.

Through partnerships like this, we can reduce our reliance on virgin resources and extend the lifetime of the valuable materials we use in our products.

Testing and learning

We’re putting circularity into action by testing practical solutions with hands-on pilot projects. Everything from how to collect and disassemble old roof windows, how to clean and repair older windows to give them a second life, and how proactive maintenance and upgrades can keep products performing for longer.

These initiatives help us understand how circularity can be practically implemented and potentially scaled.

These pilots are building insights that influence product development, service design, and circularity practices across our value chain.

Making it easier to recycle packaging

Across the VELUX Group, we are transitioning to single-material, recyclable, plastic-free packaging. [JW3.1]It offers high levels of protection and can be recycled in a single waste stream, saving time and effort.

On average, 97% of the primary packaging used in our residential division in Europe consists of recyclable paper and cardboard. Globally, we continue to remove plastic packaging from our products, making recycling simpler and faster, while also minimising the impact on the planet.

Reducing waste to landfill

As part of our ambition to increase circularity in our business, we are working actively to reduce production waste across all our sites. We will continue to implement waste reduction initiatives, share best practices between production sites and partner with waste management companies.
